H2O is well know for it’s health benefits. It has also long been credited with helping people who are trying to lose weight The reasons why though are not so widely known. Some say that it helps you to feel full so you eat less.


It’s also been suggested that keeping your hands busy with a water glass or bottle helps reduce the need to eat needlessly.

There may be plenty of truth to these suggestions, but water also fulfills a fundamental need for the body. It is needed for metabolism.

We know that metabolism plays a huge role in weight loss. But how does water fit in?

Energy is created from stored fat. The liver metabolizes the fat.

The liver also provides help to the kidneys when they are not performing at peak level. But in doing so, the liver is not able to optimally complete the function of metabolizing fat. It’s busy helping the kidneys.

Water is required in order for the kidneys to perform. If the body determines enough water has not been taken in – it will start to store water. And not necessarily in places we would like.

The body’s need to store water can be curtailed by consuming water consistently.

For most of us, this means a minimum of eight 8-ounce glasses per day.

But many people do require more – those who are already carrying extra pounds or those who sweat a lot due to exercise or temperature.

The great thing about the body is that it knows how to get rid of excess water it doesn’t need.

Since most diets require a reduction in caloric intake, less water is normally consumed as well.

In eating less, water is also lessened. Food accounts for around 30% of most people’s water intake. Eat less, and you’ll also reduce your water consumption.

For some variety, add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime to your water and drink it chilled whenever possible. And by all means, avoid waiting until you become thirsty to start
drinking.
